Through the Siemens Xcelerator, Siemens Government Technologies is helping the Department of Defense meet its goals for an adaptive acquisition framework for agile development and sustainment of its vital systems. How? By applying the industry’s most comprehensive and open digital portfolio to speed the development and delivery of innovative capabilities across DoD and its entire supply chain.
To ensure the highest fleet availability of ships and submarines, the U.S. Navy needed a way to visualize how they could achieve greater efficiency and productivity at the nation’s four public shipyards.
Through an innovative contracting vehicle enabled by the National Center for Manufacturing Sciences and its Commercial Technologies for Maintenance Activities program, SGT is leading a first-of-its-kind effort to provide the U.S. Navy with comprehensive digital twins of the nation’s four public shipyards. These digital twins are serving as foundational enablers for the Navy’s Shipyard Infrastructure and Optimization Program (SIOP) initiative to modernize the infrastructure relied on to sustain the fleet.
At the first location to be modeled, the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility (PHNS & IMF), SGT and a tightly integrated industry team provided the Navy with a complete digital twin of PHNS, reflecting the virtual “as-is” condition of all associated facilities, equipment, personnel, maintenance and sustainment work processes. The largest known digital twin of a shipyard, the virtual model replicates the physical shipyard and enables the Navy to test changes in a closed virtual environment without disrupting current work or impacting missions.

Today, modern government facilities and operations don’t simply exist in the physical world. Everything that is crucial for their functioning – whether it’s milling machines, assembly line robots, automated warehouses, or even air conditioning or lighting systems – sends signals to on-site computers and servers, continuously creating an instant inventory of its current state. This not only enables operators and commanders to know what’s happening on their installation or depot, they can also use this information to improve efficiency, ensure safety, and unlock new productivity gains and potential.

Cyber threats to U.S. national security go well beyond military targets and affect all aspects of society. Hackers and foreign governments are increasingly able to launch sophisticated intrusions into the networks and systems that control critical infrastructure. Given the integrated nature of cyberspace, computer-induced failures of power grids, communication networks, and field operations, could cause massive disruption.
The U.S. federal government needs a cyber security partner with the technology, expertise and track-record of preventing, thwarting and defeating the world’s most sophisticated cyber threats to date.
To ensure comprehensive protection of critical infrastructure, federal agencies must protect all levels simultaneously, from field operations to facility management systems. As integrators of Siemens’ globally trusted cyber security solutions, SGT helps government organizations build layer defenses with a security solution providing 360° of protection.

The Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio, is the headquarters of the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center—the single center responsible for total life cycle management covering all aircraft, engines, munitions, and electronic systems. One of six centers under Air Force Materiel Command, the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base provides holistic management of the procurement, maintenance, and manufacturing of battle-ready equipment for all Air Force missions.
To accelerate acquisition, enhance manufacturing efficiency, and improve readiness, the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center awarded a $24.6 million indefinite-quantity contract to SGT for software and support enabling the Air Force to use a common digital enterprise to integrate data relied on for the acquisition and sustainment of critical assets trusted to fly, fight and win in air, space and cyberspace.
The product lifecycle management (PLM) solution selected, Siemens’ Teamcenter software, is a modern, adaptable PLM system that connects people and processes, across functional silos, with a digital thread for innovation. With the Teamcenter software suite of tools and capabilities, the Air Force is able to integrate a broad range of complex technical, design and sustainment data, resulting in lower costs through more predictable schedule and cost performance of its assets.
Federal customers and defense agencies are under mounting pressure to accelerate product innovation, adhere to strict regulatory requirements, optimize resources, and maximize global supply chain effectiveness. Siemens’ leading-edge Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software suite delivers a full range of integrated digital environment (IDE) capabilities that enable federal agencies to conceive, design, model, simulate and optimize manufacturability of new products and systems on an entirely virtual basis.
Using our proven SIMATIC PCS7 automation, motion, and process control products (including a variety of PLCs and sensors), and our Teamcenter product/service lifecycle management software, federal customers can optimize product concepting, design, manufacturing, verification, and sustainment.
